You might be wondering who is behind this website and what makes me an acne skin care expert -- so I'll share a bit of my background with you.
Hi, I'm Michelle -- Your acne prone skin care specialist.
In my early twenties, I left a high-paying administrative assistant position in the San Francisco bay area and moved to a rural college town called Chico, California.
I had no specific plan or clear prospects, but I felt drawn here by family, friends, and a strong energetic pull. Chico is a magical place for me.
People thought I was a little crazy leaving the security of a steady job with good benefits to explore the unknown. But, I knew I wanted more for myself than a long commute to a job that didn't inspire me.
How I Found My Passion In Life
And Became An Acne Skin Care Specialist
I've always loved music, art, and experimenting with make up. As a teen, I read fashion magazines to learn about skin care and tried everything I could get my hands on to treat my own break outs.
It wasn't until I trained to become a professional make up artist that I realized how many people suffered with acne and how important it is to use the right skin care products.
My make up training took place at a modeling school, and I was responsible for helping the models achieve a certain look for their photo shoots. Many times that meant trying to cover up their acne with make up. I was intrigued about how I could help with their skin as well.
Shortly after moving to Chico, I decided to enroll in beauty college to get licensed as an Esthetician (skin care specialist).
It was here I discovered my true calling.
Everything suddenly clicked.
THIS is what I was meant to do with my life!
I realized that becoming a skin care specialist was a way I could help other people and truly make a difference in their lives. Working one-to-one with my clients is where I feel most at home -- where I really shine.
I have to admit -- I'm a skin care geek. I love it!
In 1992, one year after receiving my esthetics license, I opened my own skin care studio.
I studied Clinical Esthetics and Acne Treatment at the American Institute of Esthetics, and received certification in Post-Operative and Paramedical Esthetics as well as Camouflage Therapy for clinical trauma patients.
In addition, I took classes with James E. Fulton Jr., M.D., Ph.D, America's most compassionate acne doctor, and a pioneer involved in the development of Retin-A, benzoyl peroxide and other prescription acne medications.
Most recently I've trained with Laura Cooksey, who developed a comprehensive acne treatment system for licensed estheticians. Presently, I'm one of only 199 Face Reality Certified Acne Specialists in the nation -- although our numbers are growing steadily.
To stay current, I read trade journals and attend skin care conferences on a regular basis. I also participate in professional associations and chat boards for certified acne specialists. We're a very dedicated community of professionals committed to providing help for acne sufferers nationwide.
I don't work with one particular product line or company -- I work with many.
My opinions and reviews are based on my practical experience over the past twenty years, testing and refining methods for treating acne prone skin.

Treating acne is my passion. It's very rewarding because you really know when your methods are working -- there is visual proof. Sometimes I think I get just as excited as my clients when they start to get clear!
Over the years, I've developed a strong clientele. They're a community of friends -- working men & women, moms, teens, business professionals -- people just like you that were seeking acne prone skin care solutions.
Nothing makes me happier
than being able to help someone overcome their skin challenges.

I realized that I've got some really valuable knowledge and experience, and I want to share it with people outside my local community.
It's my mission to bring quality acne skin care advice and coaching services to as many people as possible. That's why this website was created. (Well, it's so much more than a website, but that's a story for another time.)
